I know whole India is going gaga over the oscars won by this movie. It has really achieved a milestone which every Indian aspires for.But what i feel is do we really need an oscar to show miseries of our motherland rather than her glory. Rang de basanti, Lagaan, taare zameen par were they any less than "slumdog millionaire". Lagaan didn't win 'coz it pictured negative colonial side of English?? This is utter rationalism. Can't we be given award for the movies which depict glory and splendid culture of India?? Do we really need to be appreciated by western world to prove that we are the best?? These are certain questions i am not only asking you but asking myself as well. Be it Noble prize or Oscars, it's only given to people or movies who/which are related to foriegnland somehow. Has anybody won Noble Prize studying and practicing on Indian land.I reckon not. Similarly we are feeling so proud winning Oscars for a movie which is directed by a westerner and which depicts India to its best according to a westerner's eyes, picturising India as land of poverty, excessive population, prostitution, thugs, cheaters...etc... etc... I ask u all, being an Indian, is India all about this? Why can't we win an oscar depicting positives of our motherland which attracts multitude of western tourists to India.. like for yog, spirituality, communalism, brotherhood...etc For that matter I loved Shahrukh's movie "Swadesh". Do watch it if u haven't. Also as per music, undoubtedly A R Rehman is spectacular with his music. He truly deserves an award. But what i feel is, this one's not his best composition. If you have heard the song "Vande Matram" by him...Oh good Lord! it brought goosebumps to me and was instilled with patriotism from my head to toe nails (I attended his live concert where he sumg this song). Well, let it be!!
Cheers, as we finally won the Oscars, though not by our own concerted effort, but fact is we won it. And being an Indian though I am not rejoicing it much as it hurt my sentiments but for others, those of you who celebrated the occasion, a cheers to have born in a downtrodden country.
Would love to know your perspective on it....
THANKS!!!
